Sunday Letter #37: The Plague of 2026

May 17, 2026

Hi friends,

Well. The Nasir household has officially survived what I am confidently calling the plague of 2026.

For almost two weeks straight, our entire family has been down bad. We’re talking 105° fevers for the boys, vomiting, coughing, sore throats, congestion… somehow NOT strep. Once the boys were about five days in, Hassaan got it and his fever shot up to 104. He said he has genuinely never felt sicker in his life.

Thankfully, I got it last, right as everyone else started recovering, and I’m fully crediting my survival delay to the industrial amounts of Zicam and Emergen-C I was consuming.

But seriously, guys. Please mask up or skip plans if someone in your house is sick. And please keep your kids home from school if they’re showing symptoms. That’s all. (Miranda Priestly voice.) Can you tell I just rewatched The Devil Wears Prada?

Watching it this time around felt… different? The fat shaming, the glorifying of toxic corporate culture, the emotional manipulation. It all felt a little icky through 2026 eyes. I had forgotten so much of the movie that it genuinely felt like watching it fresh again. Still absolutely seated for the sequel though.

As for projects around the house, everything came to a complete halt this week thanks to the Victorian child disease sweeping through our home. Someone fetch the town apothecary immediately. Low key felt like a frail child coughing into a handkerchief near a candlelit window.

The downtime did, however, give me plenty of time to start mentally creating new projects as if I don’t already have enough unfinished ones.

I ordered a bunch of new planters for the backyard and I cannot WAIT to plant more natives once I’m functioning like a normal person again. I also had the sudden fever-dream idea to paint the backyard door the same color as the breakfast nook. Some of you loved the idea when I shared it on Instagram. Others felt VERY strongly against it.

And to that I say… when exactly has opposition ever stopped me?

I also found two clothing finds I have to share:

This is quite literally the EXACT dupe of an Anthropologie top I own for a fraction of the price. It comes in a bunch of colors and is perfect for summer.

These athletic pants that are lightweight, breezy, and have the slightest barrel shape. Very comfy. Very “I have my life together” energy.

Anyway, that’s all my foggy little brain can manage right now. (P.S. I'm writing this on May 12th so hopefully we’re all well at this point!)

See you all on the bright side. Wishing you health, immunity, and no fevers.

Until next time,

Fariha
